Yesterday, evening a party to celebrate tlie first birthday of bis little daughter Joyce was given by Mr. T. W. Leslie in the Town flail residence. The occasion also offered an opportunity to the many frionds of tho family of meeting Mrs.. Goodwin, of Timaru, with' whom tho baby has been living for tho past year. It was practically si grownup party, and the baby made very many new friends during the evening, as well as being xhe recipient of a large number of piescnss, which included tlio daintiest baby's frocks, coats, shoes, iind little boots, sillt eocks. bonnets, etc., ps well as other gifts of quite a different character. Mr. Leslie was assisted in receiving his guests by his daughters, and after they had been presented to Mrs. Goodwin and the baby they had the pleasure of hearing some very enjoyable singing and instrumental music. Songs were sung by Mrs. Campbell, Mr. Ohlfield, Miss Gladys Leslie, Mr. Simpson,- and Miss Mackenzie, the latter two also singing an old Scotch duct ''Iliintingtowor. Mrs. Goer played a mandoline solo, Miss Doylo a pianoforte solo, and Mr. Hillick a 'cello selection. Spring flowers decorated the rooms, and also the supper table, and occupying the place of honour upon tho latter was a birthday cake, which was cut by the baby herself. Her health was also honoured with acclamation. Dancing followed later. Among those who wero present wore: Mr. and Mrs. Doylo and Miss Doylo, Mrs. Sharratt, Mr. and Mrs. Meryick. Mrs. Patcrson, Mr. Norman Leslie and daughters, Air. and Mrs. Campbell, _Mr. and Mrs. Borrowes, Mr. Goer (senior), Mr. and Mrs. T. Goer, Mr. and Mrs. J. Goer, Mrs. Gayford, Mr. and Mrs. Geale, Mr. and "Mrs. Everett, Mr. and Mrs. Amies, and 6everal others.
