TOFUA'S WOUNDED
RECEPTION TO NORTH ISLAND MEN
TO-MORROW MORNING
The Wellington and North Island contingent of tho Tofua's wonmle<l soldiers from the front will arrive hero from tho south by tlie Mararoa about 9 o'clock to-morrow morning. They will disembark at- the King's Wharf, and next-of-kin desiring to meet the steamer may obtain wharf passes on application at the .Ba-sc Record Office, Brandon Street'. Tho Mayor (Mr. J. P. Luke) lias arranged to tender tho. homecomers a civic reception at the Town Hall at 11 a.m., when speeches of welcome will, be delivered to the accompaniment of the rattle of tea-cups (which . department will be attended'to by the ladies). Tho ceremony will necessarily bo a. short one, as it is assumed that' tho Auckland men will wish to leave by tho express shortly after noon. Mr. Luke has been advised that the Tofua's men for the North Island number between 250 and 300.
TROOPSHIP AT DUNEDIN. MEN WELL AFTER FINE PASSAGE. (By T^lezrauh.—Prflss Association.) Dunedin, October 26. The Tofua arrived from Alexandria at 5 p.m. The vessel had a fine passage all the way, but a fog was experienced sonth of Australia. Private Hall, of the Canterbury Battalion, was taken to the Hospital. He became a little feverish a few days ago, but is not thought to be seriously ill. All th© others appear remarkably well after the sea voyage. Tlie Hons. J. Allen and G. W. Russell were preseut to receive the men. A civic reception will take place to-morrow morning.
The train arrangements for the conveyance of the returned soldiers to their home centres have been completed. The special hospital train which is to make the run to Auckland will leave the wharf a.t 1.45 p.m. tomorrow. The Masterton and Wairarapa district men will leave Lambton Station by the 4.25 p.m. train to-mor-row. The New Plymouth and Taranaki district contingent- will proceed to tKeir homes by the Now Plymouth mail train, leaving Thorndon at 8.20 a.m. on Friday, and by the 9.10 a.m. Napier mail train from Thorndon, the same day the Hawke's Bay contingent will be dispatched. Special cars will be attached to all these trains. His 'Worship the Mayor requests that members of the Wellington Automobile Club and also other owners of motor-cars will attend at the wharf with their cars for the purpose of conveying the soldiers to the civic reception, which is 'to be held at the Town Hall at 11 o'clock on the morning of tho arrival. .
