MOVING TROOPS
EIGHTHS TO ROUTE-MARCH
ACROSS RIMUTAKA HILL
Tho changing of bodies of soldiers from camp to camp in tho course of their training is being continued by tho Deifence Department with good results. The Ninth Reinforcements, which went into camp at Trentham last week, will it is expected move on to Tauberinikau to-morrow, the journey being accomplished by train, as the troops are as yet too new for the Jong march entailed. It is understood, however, that tbe Eighth Infantry Reinforcements, which with 'the Eighth and Ninth Mounted Reinforcements are encamped at Tauherinikau, will emulate the "Soyenths" by route-marching across the Rinvutaka liill They will probably start out on Thursday or Friday, and bivouac on the way for one night. After arrival at Trentham they will complete their training there. Tho N.C.O.'s for tho Tenth. Reinforcements are now at Trentham, and the Eleventh N.C.O.'s are going into camp this week. \
Shower-Bath Parades. Shower-bath parades in the new hot and cold-water shower-bath house at Trentham have not yet become regular features of the camp routine, thoughnumerous batches of men have been put through. When the showers were completed the drains for carrying the waste water away were connected to the existing drains. It was soon found, however, that they could not carry off the thousands of gallons of water which were used when several hundreds of men ■used the showers. As a result a new drain had to be laid across the parade ground to the creek. The trench for this has been dug,- and the pipes are now being laid in it. This drain, even in its.present'state, is considered by tho engineers to bo capable of carrying away all the water' which is likely to bo used in the bathhouses. It will bo completed in a few days, and it is anticipated that regular bathing parades will then be held twice a week, one of which will be compulsory, at any rate during the summer.
. Clothos-Drying Room. A useful addition to the camp equipment at Trentham is the drying-room provided for the dfying of uniforms and boots : in wet weather. The building is somewhat larger than the regulation hutment, and there are about 500 steel hooks driven into beams which stretch across from wall to wall. On these uniforms. and overcoats may he hung. The ; boot-dryiiig part of the room consists of wooden frames or shelves with wirenettiug across them, on whioh the boots stand whilo drying. The heat is provided by three stoves of the American pattern. These stand in a line in the centre of the building at equal distances apart, and flues carry the smoke and fumes outside. Coke is the fuel used. Yesterday afternoon, when the heavy rain came on, the 6toves wero lighted, and in a very short time the air in tho room was quite hot. An orderly was in charge, aiid saw that the fires wero hot allowed to go out. The opportunity of being able tb dry their wet clothes is much appreciated by the men in camp, though some doubt haß been expressed regarding the adequacy of the building in persistent' wet weather.
