EDUCATION BOARD

MONTHLY MEETING. The Hon, J. 6. W. Aitken (chairman) Messrs. J. Kebbell, H. Freeman, T Moss, W. H. Field, and A. W. Hogg were present at the monthly meeting, of the Wellington Education Board held yosterday afternoon in the board's room. The statement of finances showed that the pay-sheet figures during October were as followsßuildings, £897 as. 3d.; general, £3013 Is. lOd.; technical, £810 19s. 9d.; manual and technical, £277 os. 4d.; secondary, £299 10s.; teachers' salaries, £0896 6s. Bd. • contractors' deposit's, £17 13s. 6d. The debit balance on October 20 was £1524 10s. od. The receipts for October were £13,209 I6s. 2d., whilst £384 10s. 4d. of September's receipts had come in, making £13,654 6s. 6d. Tho payments in October were £12,212 2s. 4a. and in September (since lost meeting) £1188 3s. 10d., leaving a balance of £2736 Is. The application of A. W. Bastin for tho transfer of a scholarship from Wellington to Nelson was granted. The applications for septic tanks at Johnsonvillo, Levin, and Upper Hutt and for a grant for top-dressing the asphalt ground of the infants' department 1 were all deferred. In the case of the Levin application. Mr. J. Kebbell stated that it would be inadvisable to make a grant as a proper drainago system was about to lie instituted in Levin. Applications from Masterton for a special subsidy, and from the Petone District High School for the continued control of Price's Building were declined. It was decided that the drainage work in connection with tile Petone District High School be carried out l by the council plus 5 per cent. It was decided that the salary for tho September term holiday be paid to Messrs. Hiegins, White, and Dempscy, teachers who are at present undonr'oing military training. . °
