The "Cologne Gazette," in a signifi,cant article, rails bitterly at the war: usurers, who see in the present economic conditions a!wouderfiil opportunity of money-making, and declares there is exasperation amongst the-people bej cause the-task of holding out in the ' long war is rendered so difficult. It | describes- the war usury as jthe unsightly stain on Germany's white shield of .honour, and contends that although tho i people are conscious of victory, and display the utmost self-sacrifice and endurance, the tension produced in the faco of these largo war profits are so great that a safety-valve must be opened, and concludes'by predicting that if farmers continue to. hold back food the Government will proceed to a general seizure of stocks. ,
