"In anciont days tho darkest moment ever prodticed in the men of our race tho sternest resolve. I ask you, men of all classes, to como forward voluntarily and take your share-in the fight. "In freely responding to my appeal you will be giving support to our brothers who for long months have nobly upheld Britain's past traditions and tho glory of Jier .arms." The Lord Mayor of London (Sir Charles Wakefield) invites every man to t'ako Lord Derby's appeal personally to heart. "Wo want a. torrent of recruits," he says, "to give a defiant message to Germany.
