TIIORNDON CLUB. Onl.v practice, games were played on tiie Thorndon green on Saturday. Hie green was in capital order, and members generally expressed pleasure at ito condition, jfor to-day a series of competitions is being arranged, and club matches will commence on Saturday next.
[ HATAITAI CLUB. A friendly match was played on tho 1 Hataitai green on Saturday against four rinks from the Hut'fc Club, and after a- most enjoyable game resulted in a win for tho visiting club, the score being:— Hutt: Dawson, Allport, Barlow. The following rinks competed in tho club's championship rink game, which was postponed from last season, the scores being:— Rose, Mackenzie, M'Kittrick, Nasmith (s.), 13; Shepherd, M'Leaii, Ballinger, Bailey (s.), 22. JOHNSONVILLE CLUB. Tlie Johnsonville Bowling Club opened its season on Saturday last in fine weather. There was a largo attendance of visitors, including rinks from tho Kelburn and Khaiulallah , Clubs. Mr. W. L. Thompson, president, in his address, referred to the loss the club had sustained by several of its members responding to tho call of duty in connection with the war, viz., Licnten-tmt-Colonel Hall, Captain Sloano, Cap-tain-Surgeon Simpson, and Captain Howard. Ho was jiroud to say that nearly fifty men, being five per cent, of the population of Johnsonville, were at tho present time at the front, which showed that the district had responded liberally to tho Empire's call.
Afternoon tea was provided by Airs. Thompson. Tho following games wero ployed:- ■ Kelburn: Oakes, Robertson, Al'llwraith, Batten (s.), 17; Johnsonville: Wackroiv, Jlills, Styles, Pctrio (s.), 26. LABOUR DAY ON THE GREENS. There will bo play on, all the greens to-day. Wherever club tournament's have been arranged tho entrance money is to be devoted to Christmas gifts for tho soldiers at tho fronl^ A progressive pairs tournament will be played on the Wellington Club's green commencing at 10 a.m.

A THOUGHT FOR THE BOYS AT THE FRONT. The committee of the Petone Bowling Club has decided that Saturday last, October 23, and October 30 (nest Saturday) are to be dedicated to Christmas Shilling Gift Days for tlio purpose of raising funds for _ supplying .tobacco and sweets for soldiers at the front. Each member contributes one shilling.
