ALL SHOULD GIVE
— 1 Citizens of Wellington will sdarecly need to 1)2 reminded of the appeal which will be made to them to-clay. One of the most important and costly organisations associated with the groat war is that concerned in the work of the Pied Cross Society and the St. John Ambulance Association, which societies work in the closest harmony with the ILA.M.C. behind the battle-line. Their splendid energy, admirably directed, has resulted in the' saving of thousands of lives amongst our wounded soldiers. It , is to assist this noble work that a general collection is to be made in th& streets of the City to-day. It is noteworthy that this call for funch should be made to-day—the anniversary of thejßattle of Trafalgar and of the death of Loud Nelson. When one considers the awful sufferings of the wounded in the crowded cockpits of those stout old "walls of oak," and tho primitive methods of treating their wounds compared with the skilful treatment which modern science has evolved for the alleviation of pain and suffering, the value of the lied Cross and Ambulance Society's work perhaps .will be still more fully appreciated. The hand may be induccd to travel a little more frequently towards the pocket when it is realised that every shilling may mean bettor treatment for those who have been stricken in the defence of the flag under which we, in New Zealand, arc living in comfort anc! security.
