EXAMINATION IN PRACTICAL FRENCH
The Trench Club's annual examination in practical French was held on Saturday in the Theosophical Society's xlall, Ballance Street, the examiners being Madame de Cleene, Madame Dcchanet-M'lntosh, and Mr. C. J. Cooke, B.A. These examinations starterf three years ago, when seven candidates attended. There has been a gradual increase year by year, and this jear thirty-nine candidates presented themselves for examination. The examiners report that the increase in proficiency on the part of the candidates is even more marked than the increase iJI . ® lr numbers; and that this is especially the case in . French conversaiion. The other branches, namely, reading, recitation, diotation, and composition, also show good improvement. A gold medal is to be presented to the most successful candidate, a silver " iS. second on the list, and certificates to the others who liavo shown proficiency.
