MOTOR RELIABILITY TRIAL
(By Telegraph.—Press Association.) Napier, October 17. The Napier Motor Cycle Club held its annual reliability trial on Saturday, under favourable conditions, the course being from Napier to AVaikare and back, a distance of 84 miles. Eighteen competitors outerod. On the outward journey nearly all the riders experienced trouble in negotiating the Devil's Elbow, a famous bend on tho AVairoa Road, the recent rains having left the road in a very muddy condition. The winners were as under:— Open Class, first to receivo Sutton and Balfour Cup, and purse of ten sovs. —G. Powell, 7-10 h.p. Excelsior, 92-71 points, 1440z. petrol, 1; AY. J. Stevons, 31 h.p. Overseas, 8-25 points, 1240z petrol, 2.; A. G. Sutton, 3i h.p. Huinber, 92.44 points, 1260z. petrol, 3. Private owners' class, first to receive trophy vnlued at £3 3s.—H. Bate, 3J h.p. Humber, 82-12 points, 1540z. petrol, 1. This event was in reality won by G. Powell, but. as he had already secured one prize he was, according to the conditions of the trial, unable to take another. Lightweight- class, first to receive trophy valued at £1 Is.—F. Springfield, "th.p. Connaught, 1. Tho rider was a mere boy, but he was the only one to finish. . After the trial, when working out tho potrol consumption, the officials discovered certain alterations in. the construction of a tank and disqualified tho rider.
