THE QUESTIONS
A DOMINION STOCKTAKING Tho following particulars were supplied yesterday of the registration card which tho malo population between 17 and 60 will be required to fill in under tho National Registration Act:—■ , : National Registration Act, 1915. 1 In accordance with a Proclamation issued by the Governor under the above Act, all of Now Zealand between the ages of 'seventeen ;and sixty, except members of tho permanent paid military staff of tlio Defence Department' and members of' tlio Expeditionary Force Reinforcements in camp ■undergoing 'training, are- required to furnish to the Government Statistician, 'at Wellington, tho particulars set out in tlio personal schedule below. This applies to' all males who have attained : t'lio ago of seventeen but have not attained the ago of sixty years. - 2. 'Any person to whom the Proclamation relates who wilfully fails to furnish particulars as required, or who wilfully makes any false statement with respect to any such particulars, is liable to a lino of. £100 or imprisonment for . six months. i 3. Every officer employed in the collection of the schedules or in the compilation of tho register who wrongfully divulges or makes use of any information acquired by him in the course of his duties is liaolo to a fin© of £100. 4. The schedule is to bo properly completed, signed, dated, and placed in- tho accompanying envelope, ana then handed tc an officer of the Post and Telegraph Department or posted to the Government Statistician at Wellington. The register to be compiled under tho above Act is purely a civil register for the purpose of ascertaining tho resources of tho in men, and tho registration here does not involve enlistment nor is it in. substitution for tho. pTosent system of enlistment. ' Tho confidential personal schedule then follows. It is headed "New Zealand National Register of Men.' _ The first question provides for the filling in of tho full name of the man who is registering, his place of residence, and his place of business (if any). Tho second question asks him tho dato of his birth, his age last birthday, and' the country, of birth of himself, his father, and his mother. - The remaining questions are:—
6. (a) Are you a British subject (l).by birth? (2) by naturalisation? \!, (b) If naturalised, state (1) date of naturalisation; (2) place of naturalisation (e.g., United Kingdom, New Zealand. Canada, or • ' as tne case may bo). (c) Are you a foreign subject? If so, state country of allegiance.. I. (a) State whether single ("S."), niar ricd ("M."), or widower (b) State number of persons depend-, ent on you— (1) wholly dependent; (2) partially dependent l . S. (a). What is your present occupation? (b) In connection with your present occupation, are you—(1) An employer of labour? or (2) Working on your own account but not employing labour? or (3) . Assisting, but not : receiving salary or wages? or (4) An cm- ■ 1 ployee receiving salary or wages? or (5) Unemployed for more than one week? (c) If employed, state business of employer and name of employer. (d) .What 1 other occupation (if any) have you had practical experience of ? G. (a) State (1) height; (2) weight. (b) State whether your general health is.(l) very good; (2) good; (3) ' indifferent; (4) bad. If health indifferent or bad, state c&uso. (d) If there aro any circumstances or reasons that prevent: you from offering your services, state them. , ' ■ Section S) provides for information regarding relatives wholly or partially dependent oil the jwrson who is register-' ill": It asks their names and address; ago;' occupation (if any) or condition '(oV, retired, old-age pensioner, apprentice,'invalid, or. as 'tho caso may he); relationship; (e.g., wife, son, mother, or as ihe case may he); whother wholly or partially dependent; in case of partial dependants, extent of dependency per 4uinum; other income (if any) of dependant per annum. At the end of tho card is a lino for certifying that all particulars! givon ill the schedule are correct, and the intimation that all information Will be regarded as strictly confidential.
