GERMANS IN SAMOA
THEIR. TRADING OPERATIONS.
Some reference to the administration at Samoa was made by the Hon. J. Allen, when questioned on tho subject by a Dominion reporter yesterday. . "Whatever may be said by the outside public about Colonel Logan," sjiid Mr. Allen, "I am persuaded that he is, watching very carefully what is going on in Samoa, especially regarding German trado in tlio Pacific. Of course he does not control Tonga. Wo are' sending down by the next mail steamer a receiver to thke charge of the Deutsche Handols mid Plantagen Gesellscheft, the big German trading concern which lias its headquarters in Samba. The officer we have appointed is Mr. A. Matheson, who has had business experience with Dalgety and Co., and who has also htid experience as. a consular agcn.fr in the Pacific. He had enlisted for active service, but ive took him out of the Force and detailed him for this special duty. In actual fact, Colonel Logan has already taken charge of the company. Every step that can be taken to preserve British interests is being taken, and the enemy will not bo allowed to carry on trade in the Pacific if wo can prevent it."
