The Wairarapa P. and A. Society desire it to be generally known that extra classes have been added to tlie sewing and faucywork section of' their show, in hand-knitted socks and balaclavas, lor which good prizes are offered. This is expected to prove an attractive class, and it is conlidently expected that a good display of these comforts for onr gallant troops will bo made.

Further subscriptions to tho St. John Ambulance Association for tho Hospital Ship equipment- are acknowledged by the secretary, Mr. C. I'. Powles. They are as follow: —E.A.M., 55.; Miss Bray, £1; Only a Mother, fa.; Anonymous, £50.

Sirs. Williams (Gisborne) is visiting Wellington, and is staying at the Royal Oak.

. Mrs. Guy Didsbury has returned from a visit to tho Wairarapa.

A fair in aid of the Patriotic Funds, more particularly the Hospital Ship equipment, is being held in connection with the Methodist Church at Lower Hutt on, Wednesday aiext. There will be stalls for produce, sweets, flowers, sewing, eto., and the church schoolroom, in which, the fair will bo held, will no doubt be visited, in the course of-tho afternoon and evening by many who are anxious to assist the cause.

The marriage took place very quietly in St. Paul's Pro-Cathedral yesterday morning of Miss Kathleen Bulkley, daughter of Mrs. Bulkley, Austin Street, to Mr. Athol Mills, son of Mr. ana MrS 1 . John Mills, or Auckland. The ceremony was performed by the Rev. A/' M. Johnson, vicar of St. Paul's, only the immediate relatives of the bride and bridegroom being present. Mr. Mills will be going into camp at Trentham shortly.

Mrs. Guy Fulton and Mrs. ( W. H. Didsbury left Wellington yesterday on a visit to Sydney.

Mrs. O. A. Jorgensen, who has been spending a month in Wellington, has returned to Palmerston North.

Mrs. Eider, "Waimahoe," Waikanae, is visiting Miss Godfrey, Gisborne.

Miss Sylvia Wilson, of Wellington, is one of the eight volunteer nursing' sisters who have "been selected to leave for Egypt. Miss Wilson leaves Wellington next Thursday for Sydney to connect there with the" Medina for Egypt.

Mrs. Macrae, "Forebrae," Waikanae, has returned from a visit to Feilding.

The many friends of Mrs. Kelson, formerly of Waikanae, but now living in England, will be pleased to hear that she has recovered from her long illness, and is now very busy with war worfi.

Mrs, H. W. Kcrslev and Miss Smith are organising a saltiof work which is to _be • held in the Y.M.C.A. rooms, in Willis Street, next Wednesday, for tho purpose of raising funds"to assist the association to carry on its work among the troops in all the New Zealand camps, and also its military and hospital work amongst the Now Zealand soldiers in Egypt. There will be stalls for linen and fancy goods, flowers, home-made sweets, and cakes, and afternoon tea. Mrs.; W. H. George will tipen the sale.

The Navy League has decidcd to postpone its annual demonstration, which was to have been given on October 21, until a fortnight later, owing to the appeal for the Red Cross which is being made on that day by His Excellency the Governor and tho Mayor, an appeal that is being made throughout the' British Dominions. The demonstration and prize-giving will take place on November 6, and the league will call a meeting of ladies in about a week's time to. make arrangements for tho sale of sweets and flowers in. the hall on that occasion. It is the great wish of the : league to make as much money as', possible to Bend away to the Navy, so that the men may bo supplied with warm .clothing during the coming winter, when they." will be called upon to face even greater hardships than they are now enduring for the sake of the men ami women who are living so safely and peacefully at home.
