MAGISTRATE'S COURT
Mr. W. G. Riddell, S.M., presided at yesterday's sittings of tho Magistrate's Court, tho list of cases being a short one. Fred Bowtell pleaded guilty to a charge of having assaulted Eric M'Pherson, aud was fined 405., tho alternative boing seven days' imprisonment. The Magistrate advised Bowtell to join the Reiiiforcemoivts if he was really looking for fight.
A young woman, named Madge Cardno, appeared on remand on a charge of assault, causing actual bodily harm. She was further remanded for a week, bail being allowed in the sum of £50 and one surety of £"50. A young man named Bolton was remanded for a week on a cliargo of indecent assault. On the application of Mr. H. E. Evans, the accused was admitted to bail in tho sum of £100.
For drunkenness, Bruce M'Lauders was fined 205., in default to undergo three days' imprisonment. The following were also fined for drunkenness: — Alice Louisa M'Ginnity, alias Allbrnnd, 10s., or 48 hours' imprisonment; Kenneth M'Lood, 10s., or 48 hours' imprisonment; and Cornelius O'Shea, lOs., or 48 hours' imprisonment. In addition to a charge of drunkenness, Robert Johnston, a fireman on the Rimutaka, was charged with assaulting Arthur James Nicholson ?.nd Richard Smith, two of the engineers on tho vessel. Accused pleaded guilty to all the charges and was fined a. total sum of £4, tho default being fixed at seven days' imprisonment. In tho oveiit of the Rimutaka sailing before the expiry of the term of imprisonment, an order wa3 made that Johnston (if in gaol) should be placed aboard the vessel.
