LATE THOMAS CAWTHRON'S WILL
PROVISION FOR A GREAT PROJECT.

By the will of the late Thomas Cawthron the bulk of the estate is devised for tho prosecution of the great project which tho testator evidently nad in view for many years. After making provision for a number of annuities and legacies to relatives, all oUier real and personal property is bequeathed to tho Bishop of Nelson, the Mayor of Nelson, the chairman of Waimea County Council, and members of tho House of Representatives and Legislative Council for the City of Nelson and Waimea electorates, tho chairman of Nelson-Har-bour Board, and William Rout', tho 1 younger, of Nelson, all in trust, and who aro all also to be executors of, for the purchase of land and the erection and maintenance of an-industrial'and technical school, institute, and museum,' to bo called the "Cawthron Institute.
It is understood that _ the testator contemplated an institution on somewhat/ similar lines to the scientific and research institutes ill Europe, and covering a Tvido range of activity bearing upon industry - and commerce. Tho value of tbo estate is not yet accurately known, but it believed to bo in tho neighbourhood of a quarter of a million sterling. - The will was executed in London in 1902.
