ACCIDENT TO A TROOP TRAIN
TWO RECRUITS. SERIOUSLY INJURED. By Telegraph.—Press Association Auckland, October 12. _ 'A shocking accident, resulting in grave injuries to one of the Auckland recruits who left for Treiitham by a special troop train, serious injury to another, and minor injuries to two others, occurred as tiio train was passing through Taupiri Station at about 0 p.m. 0 Tho names of the men. hurt aro
Pte. Samuel M'Gee, dangerous injuries to the right 6ide of the head; Alexander Hjlaud, serious laceration of tho left arm; Ptc. Walter W. Ohitty, minor injuries; and Pte. Thomas Turner, minor injuries.
Particulars regarding tho accident aro meagre. It appears thai tho tour 111611 named were leaning out of tho train at the time, and were struck by tho arm of a tablet exchanger, which, for some unexplained reason, had failed to work. Hyland was standing on tho. platform of tho train, and 51'Geo was at tho window of the same carriage, both were' leaning out, and were struck by tho iron arm of the apparatus before tney could draw back; the other two men aro believed to have seen the danger in time to avoid serious hurt.
M'Geo and Hyland were too seriously injured to continue tho journey, and ■were taken off at Frankton Junction and conveyed to Hamilton Hospital. M'Geo was unconscious and in an est/remely grave condition, the nature of his injuries precluding much hopo of his recovery.
