ON FINANCE. . tßy Telcer&pb.- Prejs Association.) Auckland, October 11. _At the Baptist Union Conference tho Finance Committee answered questions as to how the deficits could be ' best avoided, in a number of findings including the. following That creation in eioh case is necessary of a proper reserve or capital fund bv the putting aside of special donations, surplus balances, and any legacies not ear-marked for other purposes, such reserve fund t-o be used for the financing of operations of both the union and Missionary Society. That the method of weekly systematic giving, preferably by duplex envelopes, is recomm'eflded, and should be made available in connection with all churches in the union.
That the ■ establishment of a central office and the appointment, of a paid secretary and treasurer to devote the' wholo of his time to' the transaction of the business of tlie union and Missionary Society, and of other denominational interests, including tlio keeping of accounts and the organisation and development of tlie denomination throughout the Dominion is highly desirable. That the adoption should be asked for by all' the churches of a uniform system of keeping and rendering accounts and receipts and disbursements, and of •returns of statistics.
The report was adopted tentatively, the resolution to be confirmed after a joint meeting of the Executive and Missionary Society's Committee. Tlie union held a patriotic meeting to-night in the Tabernacle.
