The packing of the Cliristmas gifts at the .Town Hall for the men at the front is now practically completed, and the Mayoress estimates that the quota of the Wellington, military area, consisting of about 8000 parcels, will be more than made up. The response to the appeal by the Countess of Liverpool Committee has been most liberal,'particularly by the' country districts, who have sent'their .contributions direct to the depot at the wharf. Aj; the. Town Hall more than one thousand addressed parcels from .relatives and friends.- to■ the soldiers at. the front were reseived, to be forwarded ivith the.gifts that are being sent by it'he "Wellington Committee of the Countess of Liverpool Fund. The latter's own contributions will probably amount to another thousand, and then , there are the nurses: gifts as well..The Wellington military, area;'it. will be remembered, includes Gisbome', Wangaliui, Napier, etc., -down to Wellington itself, so thatibetween them all it would not he a' difficult matter to provide ,for 8000 men. One of the difficulties the workers at the 'iWn Hall experienced was the comparative scarcity of packing cases, due largely to a decrease innn- . ports, and several had to be specially made. 1 .
