A BIG PARADE
FIVE THOUSAND TROOPS-ON THE MARCH, i ' The fact that 5000 soldiers are to parade through the main mid-city streets on Saturday next, and that such a spectacle' is attract a very large .crowd of sightseers is exercising the - minds of those concerned in the management of the traffic. A confer- 1 ence has already been held between the Mayor (Mr. J. P. Luke), Inspector Hendrey (Police), Captain Cardale (Defence),, Captain Munro (Harbour Board), and Mr. 'W. H. Morton (City Engineer and Tramways Manager), with the object of; securing reasonably- clear t'hor-, oughfares for the parade, and safeguarding as far as possible, the view of citizens: ; It- is understood' that the. parade will commence-from Government Buildings at about 2.30 p.m., and will proceed along Lambton Quay and Wil--lis' Street, thence along Manners Street; to the Bank of New Zealand • comer, and so : down Lower Cuba Street and Jervois'-Quay to Waterloo .Quay. -A special area will be set apart in Waterloo Quay for the relatives and friends of tho soldiers. The trams mil cease running along t'he parade route during the march out, aiicl all other conveyances will be debarred from traversing those streets until after the column has passed. The' Police, TerritorialSj and Senior Cadets will assist in preserving the line at strategical points.'
