A Ripe Old Age.

An example of this, is noticed in the Dalkeith "Advertiser"' of March last, where reference is made to the death of Miss Sarah Stewart Kilgour, late of Eskbank.. Quoting from the paper, it says:—-"The death of Miss Sarah'Stewart Kilgour took place ait her residence, Loanda Lodge, Eskbank, on February 27; 1915. 'Miss Kilgour was born on, March 5, 1814, and thus was in her 101 st, year. Although living a remarkably peaceful life, the venerable lady began 'and ended her. days iii tho turmoil of war. She was only a child of a year old when the Battle of Waterloo .was'-'fought,'"and by a strange coincidence !her life closed, when the country was again engaged in a great national conflict. During her lifetime Miss Kil-' gour knew tho anxieties of those at home who havo near friends fighting for their King' and' country in the foreign ■ field, as 6he had near relatives who took their share of the fighting in the Indian mutiny: ' Oh the occasion of her one-hundredth birthday many ■of her numerous friends gathered round her and offered their hearty congratulations on the attainment of so remarkablo an age. On that occasion she received a congratulatory telegram from His Majesty the King,- to which she was able to return a letter of thanks in her own handwriting." i ; Miss Kilgour was a sister of the late Dr . James Kilgour,'at one time a resident of Wellington, where he practised his profession in the late 'sixties, He afterwards resided at Thames and Auckland, in the latter of which towns he died in his 85th year.
