SOLDIERS FROM ENGLAND
TO STIMULATE RECRUITING. 1 ~ A! suggestion was made in Parliament yesterday by Mr. Craigie (Timaru) to the effect that' a dozen or score of convalescent soldiers,' representing the crack Imperial, regiments should be brought to Now Zealand to assist in recruiting. 1 Mr. Craigie thought 1 that the'; Government might communicate with the Imperial Government., suggesting that a couple of men each from such, regiments as the London Scottish, the Dubliii Fusiliers, the Black AVatch, etc., who had been at the front in Flanders, should be allowed to come out here. The cost would be small,, and Jf t'hey ■were allowed to go on the recruiting platforms a great stimulus would be given to recruiting. - ; Mr. Massey, on behalf of the Ministor of Defence,' said that he thought the idea, was a rather good one, and he would gladly consult his colleague and the members of Parliament) generally as to whether effect could be given, to the idea. He was not certain about placing the men on the platform in this I country.
Mr: Craigie: Let them, be seen.
;. Mr. Massey: Oh,' yes; but not' exactly as the member suggested. lam perfectly, certain that the manhood of the country will supply all the soldiers we ask for, although wo are. likely-to-ask :for a .good; number' in the near future. '
