The room and those connected with it looked, yesterday moro like a warehouse of general-merchan-dise than anything else, for everywhere there were cases, somo closed and ready to send away, others half-filled, and others waiting for their first instalment of Christmas reminders. There was quito a considerable . amount of amateur carpentering going on also, and probably many unaiscovored talents nave been brought to light in these later days in connection with the Christmas gifts. Tho actual packing-room was more like a hive of bees than anything else, long tables' being given over to various . members of the committees and their helpers, who were making up the parcels that are to go to every individual man. ,- Preserved fruit, pipes, cigarettes, chocolate, cocoa, - writing material, handkerchiefs, and all sorts of useful trifles all carefully made into brown paper parcels, -and then placed into a bag containing toothbrushes, nail brushes, soap, and various other articles. It should feel like the old Santa Clans and the Christmas stocking time Ml over again to the men who are facing such deprivations and hardships at the front. The shelves that run round the walls of the room are piled high and running over with tins and parcels of Christmas 1 goods that have been sent in for individual soldiers from their relatives and friends, to bo.sent to them through the Countess of Liverpool. Committee. It is' anticipated that something betweeii twentyfour and thirty cases will be sent away by the troopships that are leaving with tho nest Reinforcements: To-day-will bo the last day for receiving parcels that are to be sent through the 00mmittee at the Town Hair for the men at tho front. Miss Veitcli, of Wellington, returned from a visit to Sydney by : the Uliniaroa yesterday. Mrs.; and Miss Beere have returned from a trip up the Wanganui Biver. - - Mrs. A. Wells, Island Bay, left on Saturday on a short visit to Featherston,- where she. will -be the guest of her. sister, Mrs. H. C. - Wilkinson. The Mayoress desires to thank all-who assisted, her on the four, veilings,which, were given at tho. Toivn..Hall- for the. soldiers in camp, and 'particularly her, .committee. which was' formed!' by Mrs. and. Miss Townsend, tho Misses; Clark, Bock, Powell, and Sidey. Mrs. Luke ■ was. also very' grateful to the councillors'. wives, who assisted, lier last Friday and Saturday nights. ■' .;
