MIRAMAR GOLF CLUB

The mixed foursome competition on Saturday \afternoon, for trophies given b.y'Mr. M.' J. Kilgour, was won by Mrs. Webster and H; P. F. Blundell (handicap 11), 2 up on bogy. Th'e next best cards were: Miss K. Williams and H. S/ Hislop (15), all square; Miss M. Ward and Q. 0. Sutton (10), 1 down; 'Miss Doughty and W. T. Doughty (9), 2 :down; Mrs. R. A. Holmes and C. R. C; Robieson (9), 2 down; Mr. and Mrs. L, F. AYatkins (14), 2 down; Mr. and Mrs. B. L. Taylor (15), 2 down; After the competition, the club entertained about: three hundred visitors and members at afternoon tea in its new club house. After tea, the president of the club, Mr.'J. P. Firth, addressed tlie guests, and gave some interesting facts about tho club's progress during its ton years' existence, and acknowledged the valuable work done by ivany members and officials of tlio club.. The concluding portion of 1 Mr. / Firth's address consisted of a stirring appeal to those members who ar<v unable to volunteer for active service to do their utmost to help in other ways. In concluding, Mr. Firth suggested' that the members could not hotter celebrate tho opening of their new club house'than by giving a special donation to tho war funds. He • then, handed to the secretary a cheque for a substantial amount towards the "Olub House War Fund." Mr. J. S. Holmes followed with a similar amount, and many other members promptly put their names on the list, with the-result that the fund has already reached .over £180. All members who are willing to' help, and have not yet signified their intention to do so, are asked to communicate with the Secretary, Mr. G. 0. Sutton, as soon as possible, so that the club may bo enabled to fittingly cclebrate the opening of its new house,
