EASTBOURNE BOROUGH COUNCIL

i A meeting of the Eastbourne Borough Council was held last Friday, the Mayor (Mr. J. P. Kelly) presiding. The Town Clerk reported that the- Wellington Harbour Board had, accepted the council's tend6r for the lease of the Ferry Wharf offices for a further term of three year;.. A letter was received from the Department of Lands asking if the council would accept appointment:to control the Eastbourne Domain for a further period of seven yeara aid. the Town Clerk was directed to reply stating that the council would be pleased to accede to. the 'Departments request. Some discussion took place on the eand drift nuisance, which was again in evidenco 'in : the vicinity of Kauri Street, and it was, decided to ask the Department, of Lands for the advice of tJieir expert as to tho best'moans of ooping. with the evil. In' consequence of the increasod amount of business that the council had lately had' to deal with and the" difficulty of getting through with it in one evening, it was decided-to hold two meetings in each month in future. The FeiTy Board report stated that Captain Evans, of the Duchess, lias been granted leave of absence to enable him to proceed to England to offer his services to tho Admiralty. The manager submitted a report on the proposed parcel delivery scheme, and the Ix>ard'recommended its adoption. Councillor Heenan moved that a special committee be appointed to consider and report as to a scheme for dealing with (a) tho foreshore vested in the borough; (b) the borough recreation ground and _ Muritai •Park; (c) the laying out, planting, and beautifying of all public places 111 tho borough After some discussion the motion was oarried, Councillors Pilcher and Buasell voting against it.
