MAGISTRATE'S COURT
SATURDAY'S SITTING. 'Mr. D. G. A. Cooper, S.M., presided at tho sittings of the Magistrate's Court on Saturday morning. Mary Desmond, for whom Mr. P. W. Jackson appeared, pleaded 'guilty to charges of drunkenness, assault', and wilfully damaging property, valued at £3 10s. On tlie charge of drunkenness, the accused was convicted and discharged, but for tho assault sho was fined 205.,. and ordered to pay 13s. expenses, in default to undergo three days' imprisonment. In respect of the third charge, the accused was ordered to inako good the damage done or to go to gaol for seven days. Fortunatus Evelyn "Wright, who appeared oil two cliargcs or indecent assault, was remanded until Wednesday next. . • For indecent exposure, Cecil James Check' was fined £2, the alternative being fourteen days' imprisonuviit'. On a charge of drunkenness, the same accused was convicted and discharged. A remand until Tuesday was granted in the case of Albert F. Green, who was allowed bail in the sum of £20. Green is charged with theft of groceries and'cooking utensils, valued at £2 19s. lid., tho property of tho New Zealand Government. . Timothy Donovan, against _ whom there wore several previous convictions, pleaded guilty to a charge of drunkeniicss, and was sentenced to oil© month's imprisonment. On charges of drunken? liess, Norman M'l'hco and ■ William M'Carfchy wore fined 10s. each, the alternative being forty-eight liours' imprisonment. Two iirst offenders were remanded for curative treatment, and several others were leniently dealt with.
