. - PRICE OF FLOUR. RECORD WHEAT CROP IN ALBERTA. On Tuesday reference in THE DOMINION to the easement.-m the price of (lour gave rise to some comment on the subject on the; part of a' local flour merchant well posted-in the prevailing conditions. Our ■informant was inclined to believe that.t-ho drop, had been brought about by two. main factors. One was tho large quantity ■;of ,-flour that was being imported from America— flour- of a quality that was finding- favour with the bakers—and which naturally decreased the demand for: New Zealand flour,:,to tho extent of the quan-. tity imported, and in the second place to the: fairly substantial stocks held in tho south. .Whilst - the export of . flour to Australia- had been prohibited by tho Government-, the ultase did not extend to bran and pollard, which had Been bringing very high prices in the Commonwealth. To supply that market . the wheat had to bo ground, and-at the present time some of. the:' mills in the south -were fully stocked with flour, which the holders will naturally wish to get rid of whilst the price' holds up, and before there is a possibility of Australia's new season's flour—due in De-cember-Effecting, the. market. . . . News was'received on Tuesday from Calgary, the centre of one of Canada's biggest wheait areas, stating that the threat of an early freeze had not developed, and 'there was every promise of a record crop of wheat._ From point of view this is good news,-and is another indication. that the "price of flour in New Zealand is likely .to recede within'the' next three months. :
Customs duty collected at the port, of Wellington yesterday' amounted to £2504 9s. 3d.
