TRENTHAM CAMP
BURGEON-GENERAL HENDERSON'S. REPORT SATISFACTORY. A report on TreritliamCamp : arid Trcntham--.Military, Hospital has been, received by ; the Defence Minister from Surgeon-General :Henderson, Director of Medical Services. In.his.reportrGeneral Henderson, stated-; tluitr lie had found'that at present there was no epidemic at', Trentham.' VTlie' > chiefly-mild influenza, and, the number of admissions was due to the excessivo care of i ■the medical officers, who admitted all who wero oven mildly-indisposed. .The | measles cases .were' also . mild, .mostly. German measles, and during the threo days prior to September- 20 only three new cases occurred..'' He found that tho hospital accommodation was ample, and that the patients were well cared for. - . ■ ■ ' In the camp -his opinion .was that the huts were excellent, comparing favourably with those in use in the training-; camps in England. He did not- consider that there, was any necessity for the provision of separate dininc-lialls in the present camp.-.. General Henderson considered the position of the huts satisfactory,- and ho did not think- thero was any objection to bo taken on sanitaiy grounds to the propinquity of the. ..huts, but he. advised; that in _ . future camps huts should be placed thirty-feet apart: He.did not consider there'.was "any overcrowding of the men,, as;',the. number of men to.'itho .acwj'Jjajsf'lOS'.* :,The roads being construcfedi ! ;ja'iid- ; 'the surfaco drainage . arrangements •: were quite satisfactory. , . - ~ He'was there was jno .Teason 'to fear the outbreak .of ,any.--epidemic, owing to'any lack of-sariitatio'n, though they must bo prepared for . measles and influenza recrndescm|.'s'C'!; .f' ... The huts- would be- all fully disinfected in October for six: days, between the time of the departure of: one lot of troops and the arrival of anDther.' '- .
