A SHOCK TO THE HUNS
BRITISH LION THOROUGHLY ROUSED Br Telegraph—Press Association—Copyright The Hague, September 19. The Gorman Press comments are dis-. appointed in tone at the prospect of the British Government taking the momentous decision on conscription, as it was hoped that Britain and her Allies, wishing to avoid a winter campaign, wo nM try to arrange peace. The tone of the Press has undergone a remarkable change. Instead of showing contempt for tho British military eltort, newspapers and military experts dwell as lengthily as possible on the results of conscription, and discuss how Germany is to foil the new move. ("Ernes" and Sydney "Sim" Services.) (Rec. September 20, 3.5 p.m.) London, September 19. Mr. Asquith's and Lord Kitchener's recent speeches have been reprinted by the whole of the German Press. The papers generally admit that Germany has under-estimated Britain's deterininaticn, and therefore must be ready for further trials and difficulties.
