Red Cress Tea at .Hamua. Tho Red Cross tea chain was continued by Mrs. W. J. Smith, assisted by Miss Bisset, on Wednesday afternoon, thoro being a large attendance. Very busy were the guests this week, most of thorn having; some article to be finished to go by the October transport, so that only twenty minutes were allowed for a competition, which was won by Mrs. A. V. Udv. The honorary secretary, Mrs. Paul Mickle, is forwarding the sum of £3 165., the proceeds from six teas. The hostess on Wednesday of next week will be Mrs. J. Willis, "Burn Yiew, ,j Hamua. Mrs. Paul Miclde, - hon. secretary of Red Cross Teas, Hamua, is propared to receive three dozen ■ pairs 'of socks used by men in camp at Trentham, which require mending. This matter was discussed at Mrs. W. <J. Smith's afternoon, and each lady is willing'to do a share in. tho mending.
Health of Women and Children Society. The monthly meeting of ,the Royal New Zealand Society for the Health of Women and Children, Petone and Hutt Branch, was hold in tho Mayor's Room, Petone, on Tuesday, a- large number of members being present. Mrs, R. C. Kirk presided, ancf considerable business was transacted. The secretary reported that a room in Feist's Buildings, Lower Hutt, was now ready for riunket work, • and-that Nurse Baker had commenced her duties in the district. -The Piunket rooms at both places were well attended by mothers. It was decided to alter the nurse's days of attendance at the rooms. In future she will bo at • Peltone on Mondays and Thursdays from 2 to 4.30 p.m., and at Lower Hutt on Tuesdays and Fridays at . the same hours. It was als9 decided to hold a meeting in October for mothers rto be addressed by the Piunket Nurse. Nurse Baker ; who .was ■present at'the meeting, was introduced to the committee, and was warmly received. Mrs. W. A. Ewen apologised for absence through ill-health, and' sent a donation of £3 3s.' The society was) also the recipient of a donation of £1 from a friend, who wished to be anonymous. ■ . ■
Mrs. Maria Kilfoyle, widow of the late Mr. Francis Kilfoyle, died on Wednesday at the age of 79 years, says tho Auckland "Herald." Both Mrs. Kilfoyle and her husband caine to New Zealand from the south of Ireland in the same ship, arrived in Auckland in 1847, and were married . some years later. Mr. Kilfoyle was for a" lengthy period in the servico of the Provincial Government, and afterwards in the service of the Lands and Survey Department. He died-some five years ago. Mrs. Kilfoyle leaves an adult family.Mrs. and Miss Webb (Nelson) are visiting Wellington. A meeting of the Society for the Protection of Women and Children was held yesterday. ' There were present: Lady Stout (presiding), and Mesdames Ponsonby, Glasson, Kirkcaldie, Winder, Corrigan. ■ It was reported thata number of cases had been attended to, and others were being investigated.
