.WEBB-HANNAN RACE. In the course of a letter, P. Hannan, who is to row Wm. Webb, ex-champion of the world, for the professional championship of New Zealand and £200 aside on tho Wanganui River on Friday next, admits that he has not been aUlo to do as much work on the river as ho would have liked, and has had to make Tip by doing moro exercise on land,.which was hardly so satisfactory. He preferred the Wairau River to train'on to the Wangamii River, but was getting alon°; better with.his training since liis brother had arrived in camp. At one time Hannan hoped that Harry Floyd, who trained Arnst,: would have been able to come across from Sydney for the final week to give him 'a few finishing touches, but in this he was disappointed, as in a letter received by this week's mail, Floyd wrote Hannan stating that he could not get across, as he was going on a business trip to Java, but hoped to get over for a trip early in the New Year. Wanganui reports say that Webb is rowing up to bis best form. He was always a clean, graceful sculler, -with a good push at the finish of tho stroke, but there have been cases where weaknesses have developed, and Webb has been unable to show to the best advantage,. but even under such conditions his times have always been good:
