The Avondaie Jookey Chb's Spring Meeting will conclude to-day. ; The Otago Hunt Club will l.old its race meeting on the Wingatui ■ racecourse today. Iho totalisator will be used by the club for the first time. . The handicipper to the Geraldine Club seeing to have treated Meltchikoff with extraordinary leniency, and the Riccar-ton-trained animal will no doubt be a warm order in both his races on Thursday. Last month at the' C.J.C. Winter Meeting, when looking as if a race would do him good, Meltchikoff was only beaten by a nose by Kaminohe in the Heathoote Handioap, the 6even furlongs being left behind in lmin. 28 3-ssec. On'that occasion the runner-up carried 81b. above the minimum. At Geraldine he is engaged in the open five furlongs at the minimum, and is receiving weight from hacks like Aerial and Multoe. In the Belfield Welter he is meeting a very poor lot, and he is set to carry only. 81b. above the minimum.
The Gisborno gelding Toki, who was injured at Ricca-non some time back, has sufficiently rewjvered to bw shipped home. He passed through-Wellington on Thursday" in charge of his trainer. Owners hav3 the acceptances for the Otaki and Wanganui meetings to engage their attention on .Monday next. In the Flying Handicap at Wanganui, Bimeter, Sst. 101b., reads well treated. At the May meeting of this club the black son of Malster carried Sst. 31b., and cantered in from Hoy, Bst. 71b., the unplaced division including King Lupin, Bst. 121b. The following day 'Hoy carried Sst. 131b., and conceded one of her own age in Veronal 291b. This would make Bimeter out to be above the average, and if ho strips well next week the others are likely to know they have been galloping before the end of the race. Included amongst the 'runners in the Joffre Handicap at Wingatui to-day is Bon, who is trained by J. White. At Timaru in April the Boniform gelding de-„ feated a large field in ihe Rosewill Handi-, cap, 5 furlongs, and was timed to run lmin. 2 2-ssec. On that occasion ho carried Sst. lib., with a 6st. 71b: minimum', so with only 101b. above tho minimum he reads well in. The Spring Meeting of the Rosehill Racing 'Club will bo held to-day. Amongst the events to be decided is the Spring Stakes, one mile. All the best weight-for-age horses are engaged, including the New Zealander Reputation.
The New Zealand Cup winner, Lady Lucy, has produced a filly to the imported Demosthenes. A half-brother by Antagonist to Medley lias been put into work at Riccarton by .P. D. Jones; If. Black Northern starts in the Mount Albert Steeplechase to-day ho is likely to be a strong fancy, as on his form in the Hurdj,cs the first -day the opposition will be unable to make him show his best pace. . The country at Avondalo is anything but difficult. Glenroy is likely to be a strong fancy for any event he starts in (o-day. At Avondaie this week he was timed to run a very smart five furlongs. The Avondaie Stakes winner, Lady Jack, claims an engagement in tho C.J.C. Welcome Stakes, but as the latter event clashes with the similar race at.Elleialic, J. Stenmng*s filly is unlikely to bo sent pouth. Js
be eent to Sydney in. Monday. Hitherto Try Fluke has shown his best form on heavy , going, bnt it will be difficult to get a wet track in Sydney at this time of the year.
Up till a late hour yesterday afternoon all arrangements were in train for the holding of the Spring Meeting of the Wellington Racing Club on the Labour Day dates,- and the programme was to bo advertised' next week, but unforseen circumstances have again arisen, and the meeting will have to be held over. TheTe is every probability of the club racing on December It and 17. These dates do not clash with any other meetings. The presence of Achilles on the Queen's Wharf yesterday attracted considerable attention, and for some time the handsome chestnut stallion had quite a levee of . interested spectators. Later on ho. was put aboard the south boat, and it ia learned that he has been leased to Mr. Harvey Patterson, and is to take up stud duties at that gentleman's stud in Canterbury. . The imported horse Winkie, due to arrive nest week, will fill the place of Achilles at the Waikanae stud, where Birkenhead and Bezonian are also standing.
