COCK-A-BULLIES IN MILK
MILK VENDORS FINED. / By Telegraph.—Press Aosoclation. Chrlstchurch, September 15. :In the Magistrate's Court, to-day it was'stated in evidence that a milk vendor, ill Christchurcli had found "cock-a-bullies" in'his milk. The statement was made in a case in winch Charles Dibrah and Henry E. Bryant were charged with selling milk containing water,, and also with soiling milk not up to the standard. C. P. Buckingham, milk retailer, of Sydenham, said that on several occasions he had cause to complain of the quality of the milk supplied by defendants. On one occasion he found "cock-a-bullies" in it. _ Dibrah: Yes. I can- explain that. There was a little boy staying at our house at the time and he put- them in. The Magistrate (to Buckingham): Wliafc did j'ou do with tlie fish? Buckingham: I sent them back, your Worship. . : A. A. Bickerton, • Government.- analyst, gave evidenco to ,the effect that, the milk had been adulterated. . _ Dibrali, in his sworn statement, denied having put water in his milk at any time, either lie or his partner. _ The Magistrate: Wliatdo you do 111 business?, , , . Accused: I milk cows and do general work on the farm. The Magistrate: And wliat does your partner do? . _~ - A voice in court (sotto voce): .bisliing. (Laughter.) . ' Accused: >He looks after the foTvlsand helos with the.milking, your Worship. Tlio Magistrate imposed a fine of fclU and costs on the charge of watering milk:-The other charge was dismissed.
