The geological section of the Wellington Philosophical Society met at the Dominion Museum last There was a satisfactory attendance of both rnernbere and visitors. A number of interesting exhibits were displayed, including rock specimens from tue Otira Tunnel, brought by Mr. E. W. Holmes. Mt. G. Bogben read a very interesting paper on "The East Coast (New Zealand) Earthquakes of 191-1." These earthquakes originated from a number of fault lines with a general north-east and southwest direction, lying several hundred miles east of Wellington. The seismograph afiords evidence of the tilting of the land_ in the .neighbourhood of WelJ'"n!; on > ™ sympathy with the movement or these' fracture lines.
