MAGISTRATE'S COURT
CIVIL LIST E&served judgment was delivered in the Magistrate's Court yesterday by Mr. AV. G. Riddel], S.M., in the civil action, H. G. Anderson and Co. v.. the Phoenix Oil Co., Ltd., and J. It. von Fedorowicz, a olaim for .£56 19s. 4d. The amount olaimed was tho price of 3000 ft. of wire rope supplied to the Phoenix Co. in accordance with an order given by Fedorowicz as engineer .to the. company, and subsequently cancelled. The Magistrate non-suited the plaintiffs, with costs £i 10s. . Mr. T. Young appeared efor the plaintiffs, Mr. H; P. Von Haast for the Phoenix Oil Company, and Mr. T. Neave for J. Ward was ordered to pay James R-eid iIG ss. 2d. on or before September 28, in default to undergo 14 days' imprisonment. POLICE CASES. Before Mr. D. G. A. Cooper, S.M., a young man named James Milne pleaded guilty to the theft of a rug valued at 10s. On tho, application of Detectiveaerge'ant M'Uveney, tho prisoner was remanded for sentence until Friday next. For absenting themselves from the steamer ICumara without leave, Ernest Jackman Mills, and William West were sentenced to 14 days' imprisonment and were ordered to pay Court oosts. Should the vessel be ready to sail before the expiry of the term of imprisonment, both men are to be placed "Aboard at this port. Joseph Hickey pleaded guilty to a charge of using obscene language on Lamb ton Quay, and was fined <£3, in default to undergo a month's imprisonment, tor drunkenness accused was convicted and discharged.^ Henry Greenfield, who had been found drunk, was fined 20s„ the alternative being three days' imprisonment. On charges of drunkenness,-Thomas M'Laughlin and Bruce M-Lajytera were fined 10s! each, default being fixed 'at 48 hours' imprisonment. Several first-offending inebriates were aiso dealt with. JUVENILE COURT. A, boy whose parents were reported to be in indigent circumstances, was yestcrday n committed to a receiving home in •Wellington. The Magistrate (Mr. D. G. A. Cooper, S.M.) ordered the boy's mo--ther to contribute the sum of 3s. 6d. per week towards the maintenance of her son. • A charge against a youth of obtaining >£10 by means of false pretences was to nave been heard in the Juvenile Court yesterday morning, but it was withdrawn 1 by leave of tho Court.
