OUR SOLDIERS UNIFORMS
NOT ALL LOCALLY MADE. As observant people may have noticed, a few. of the soldiers who returned by the Tahiti were wearing uniforms which ,wero : n6t niade.in- New Zealand. 'Dr.' Thacker (Ohristchiirch East) askei in the House of Representatives yesterday if Neiv Zealand troops could not j b» re-equipped .in New Zealand,-., with. New* Zealand-made equipment, instead of in Egypt. Many of the men. who returned by the Tahiti had been reequipped in Egypt, and were wearing English and Canadian uniforms. The Hon. A. M. Myers, Minister for Equipment, said that the troops wero sent away fully equipped, and extra equipment w«s also sent to tho base in Egypt. . 1 i The Hon. Jas. Allen eaid that an arrangement had been made with the British Army Council by which the New Zealanders' were re-equipped from the British Ordiiancc Stores in Egypt, and a certain sum was paid by New "Zealand in consideration thereof. It might be possible) in future to manufacture sufficient supplies in the Dominion to Bend stores to. Egypt for re-equipment purposes, but the present arrangement was the more convenient ono just now. A: member: Some of the men were without overcoats. Dr. Thacker: A number of men went aboard the Tahiti in Egypt in their pyla.The' Minister:' Well, they would take no harm in Egypt on that account.
