HUTT RIVER BOARD

A meeting of the Hutt River Board was held last evening, there being present: Mr. H. Baldwin (chairman), and Messrs. Knight, Welch, and Burrows. A • repott submitted by the Petone Sewage Engineer (Mr. R. Fox) stated that the river beiug in flood on July 21 its scouring action washed away 40ft. of the bank and -undermined and damaged the outfall sowor at the Petone sanitary depot, requiring about 60_ft. to bo removed.- The outlet was originally 10ft. from the west bank, and now the piles that wore supporting the 18in. spiral pipe are 60ft. out in the stream. Unless some, protective measures were taken immediately : more valuable land would be washed away. Moreover, as the piles above mentioned are more than half-way across the stream they were a source of danger to boats and would need to bo removed. It was decided to notify owners of_ motor-boats of the obstructions mentioned.
