TROUBLES IN INDIAN NORTH-WEST
SHARP FIGHTING WITH THE MOHMANDS By Telegraph—Press Association—Copyright Calcutta, September 13. Details of the Shabkadar fighting (17 miles north-east of Peshawar) show that 10,000 Mohmands were raiding,, on the border, burning r villages and seizing women and children. The climax came on September 5, when General Campbell attacked on a front of four miles. By clever tactics the enemy were drawn from the trenches and driven to' a common centre, round which the British had formed into, a crescent like a Zulu iinpi. General Campbell's big guns showered a storm of lyddite.. After a fight lasting six hours the enemy had 1200 killed and wounded. It was noticeable .that the enemy's shooting was accurate, and he showed disciplined formations while attacking. The enemy evacuated the position on September 6.
