THE INTERCEPTED LETTERS
Bj, Telegraph—Press Association—Oopyrijlit New York, September 13. Van Papen is holiday-making in the Yellowstone National Park. It is expected that his removal will be demanded. [The State Department was recently reported to be investigating cases against von Papen, a German military attache, and von Nuber, the Austrian Consul-General. It is understood that von Papen sent a private letter to his wife, through Mr. Archibald, the war correspondent, referring slightingly to the American officials. Mr. Lansing, Secretary of State, regards the act of communication through Mr. Archibald as an abuso of the American passport. • M. Dumba's letter contained an enclosure rolating to von Nuber's negotiations for munitions strikes.] PENDING DISMISSAL OF VON PAPEN. (Rec. September 14, 10.40 p.m.) . Washington, September 14. The United States Government .is also likely to dismiss Captain von Papen (the German military attache) in consequence of his name being connected with Mr. Archibald's in the Dninba incident.
