[BY GlliEncob.l The Avondale Cup meeting, which takes plaoo on Wednesday and Saturday of this week, will be the only meeting this week. The Avondale Stakes, four furlongs, for two-year-olds, is tho first juvenile event of the season. The Cup' and Flying Handicaps will also be decided on tho opening day. At the present time Monojack and Loyal Arch are the best liked. • Secretary J. JI. Johnston, of the Menawatu Racing Club, is at present on a visit to Wellington. ' The Martian—Lovelorn colt, in J. W. Lowe's stables, is to bo sent to Hastings for the weight-for-age event next month. The youngster, who is a full-brother to &ones, can gallop .well.Mr. H. Whitney is considering sending Rose Pink (Kilbroney—Modder) to the Napier meeting next month. The youngster is on the small side, but is growing, and she acquits herself well in spriuts over a couple of furlongs. The locally-owned Marsinali gallops well on the tracks, but so far-she has not reproduced her best form in races. On Saturday morning she galkiped six furlongs with Taringamutu, and the latter, who is engaged in the Plying Handicap at Wanganui, was in front at the finish. Secretary A. E. Whyte, of the Wellington Racing Club, left last week on a business visit to the West Coast. Ho returns to town, this week. The withdrawal of Ruapani from his engagements at the Avondale meeting was due to the son of Multifid contracting influenza. Owing to the death of his brother, Lieu- 1 tenant Henry Taylor, killed at tho Dardanelles, Mr. T. It. Taylor lias decided to retire from racing for twelve months, and his horses, Consul and Jackman, have been turned out. The well-known horseman, F. W. M'Cabe, has taken, oilt a trainer's license in Melbourne. Another New Zealander im_S. Neary has als'o been granted a trainer's license by the Victona Racing Club. ' Garlin, Mountain Knight, and Reputation carried equal weights (9at 71b.) in tho Chelmsford Stakes,- run at Randwick ..on Saturday. Garlin will meet the' horses named on slightly better terms in the Caulfield Cup. F. Tutchen, the New Zealand horseman, had two interviews with the stipendiaries at Caulfield on Saturday, September 4. Inquiries were held into tho running of his mounts (Wortupa. and Expiation) in the Kiowa Hurdle and Sandringham Steeplechase respectively. In both cases no action was taken. The well-knowji Sydney, horseman, Myles Connell, has been engaged to ride Reputation in his Australian engagements. The New Zealand-owned jumpers, Tim Doolan, Kew, and Killaloo, Diavolo, and Scots Guard, have been entered for the jumping events at the Australian Jockey Club's Spring Meeting, which opens on October 2. Rinaldo, Sunbird, and Banksia, who are expected -to take a hand in determining the decision of the New Zealand Cup, are down to compete in the two principal handicaps at the Wanganui meeting, which opens on September 23.. In commenting on Toa Tere's easy victory in the Canterbury Park Handicap on September 4, a' Sydney writer says that another 141b. would not have stopped tho New Zealander, and great interest will lie manifested in his next public appearance. The Riccarton horseman, C. -Emerson, leaves for Auckland to-day to fulfil riding engagements at the Avondale meeting. A. Oliver and L. Wilson are also making the trip.
