Mr. and Mrs. Harry Hume (Masterton) are visiting Auckland. The postponed reception which was to have been held hy members of the Pioneer Club for.Miss Dorothea Spinney, oh her previous visit to Wellington, will take place at the club on Wednesday. weeii. The. arrangements for the two social evenings which are to be given very shortly in,the Town Hall for the men of the 7th, Bth, and 9th Reinforcements by the ladies of the committees of the Soldiers' Club and of the Town Hall, are practically : complete. The musical part of the, entertainment, which is'in charge of the Y.M.C.A., promises to be very good, and very careful consideration has been paid, to the supper arrangements. There -will be.. twenty tables, and these have been allocated as follow. The Soldiers' Room Committee, with Mrs. W. F, Massey in charge, two tables; the Countess of Liverpool Committee,' Viscountess Kolburn, two tables; the Mayoress, Mrs.. J. P. Luke, two tables ; Militant Hospital Guild, Lady .Ward, two tables; St., John Ambulance Nursing Divisions, Wellington Central and Wellington South, one table cach; Khandallah ladies, two tables, Hutt, Petone, Eastbourne, [ Miramar, Wadestown,- and Karori districts, one table each • the Young Women's. Christian Association and the Ladips'_ Auxiliary of the Young Men's Association, one each.
The anniversary services of the Thorndon Methodist Sunday Schools were successfully celebrated on Sunday, when there were large congregations throughout the day, • especially in the: evening, when , the Church was taxed to its utmost capacity. ! Tho church was tastefully decorated for the occasion with evergreens and flowers. In _tho morning the Rev! "A. E. Hunt delivered a stirring discourse on the duty of parents to their children, -whilst in the afternoon the Rev. J. Richards gave a most interesting address ■on "Spiders and Spiders' - Webs." The evening service was conducted by the Rev. G. S. Cook, who delivered an ; appropriate address in which he referred to the responsibilities and privileges of parents. A special feature of the celebrations was tho singing of scholars and choir, who, under the able conductorship of Mr. T. Sims, acquitted themselves in an admirable manner. Misses J. Nicholas and G. Balding officiated at the organ and piano respectively. The anniversary will be continued 011 Wednesday evening,' when the annual conce/t will be held. < . '
