POVERTY BAY DEFEATED,

Tho final game of tho Now Zealand Ladies' Hockey Tournament was played on the Basin Eeserve yesterday morning, when after a fast and interesting game Wellington had a-descrying victory over Poverty Bay. Unfortunately as the local girls had l>een defeated on Saturday this did not alter Poverty Bay's position as winner of the tourney. In yesterdays game, • Miss Pickering .. scored ellmgton's two points, and it was not until the second spell that Poverty scored their one and only goal, .which was secured by' Miss Hill.The game 1 finished: Wellington, 2; .Poverty' Bay, 1. Messrs. J. C. Cusack and A. W. Manning were tho referees. • Subsequent to the game Mr. T. M.;Wilford, president of the New Zealand Ladies Hockey Association, presented ' the champion cup,to the'captain of the Poverty Bay: team (Miss Ferguson). Tho runners-up 6hield was'liauded in- turn to the captains of the Wairarapa and Wellington teams. Misses I. Humphries and -11.' Neumaim respectively:. Mr.-.Wil-'ford congratulated the leading teams, and cheers. were given for the champions, the r-unriers-up, members of the executive, and- others, and this concluded the' tourrnament.
