NEW TAXATION.

Sir,—-Let me suggest a, few items that I feci suro can well stand a good deal more tax. First, take beer. This liquor can stand, without a doubt-, a heavier tax and all othor liquor' as well oan stand moro tax. Next, take the picture shows. By all means 'put a ■heavy tax 011 these places of amusements, and you will bo doing the country a great, sorvice. Then, take the infernal cigarette' and cigarette tobacco and add unothor blessing to our rising generation. Next tax tho gate money to all racecourscs or add further a heavier tax on tile totalisator. The above taxation would principally fall on tho ploasnre-seeker and spendthrift man, and those seeking' pleasure in thoso terrible war times should not complain of a war tax. One item, I feel sure, has escaped our Prime Minister's notice, and that is the tax put upon our banks. Why, the tax nw put upon bunks j* a mo flefcMo to ths ,t*s kali

imposed upon all their customers, some few years back, namely, the 10s. iier annum charged for keeping all their accounts. The banks years ago had lean years, but- prior to the above tax being put upon their customers they were paying bandsomoly. How much better must they be paying now? Now this 10s. 011 a singlo account sounds very little, but it doos not take a very longheaded man to estimate what 10s. per account for all the accounts in this fair Dominion would amount to. Now, Sir, since tho banks thought fit, without leave or liberty, to put that huge tax on its customers, I liopo the Government retaliate and put doublo that tax on our banks, and that won't bo robbing Peter to pay Paul, but will bo putting a tax in a placo whero it can well bo borne. Trusting that some abler pen than mino will take this matter up and try to place tho new taxation m its right channels, and especially in a fitter place than on tho cookies and poor man's night lightkerosene.—l am, etc., FARMER.
