THE WAR TAX.
Sir, —With regard to the proposed war tax on land and .incomes, I havo not seen any reference being made as to whether pr not those men who have volunteered for the front aro to bo exempt from the tax. I think it would be a graceful act on the part of the Government to sec that no man who has given his services and volunteered for the front- should bo taxed. Tho fac£ of a man risking his life for his King and country should bo taken into con" sideration, and no ponalty imposed on him for doing so. Personally, I know of several young- men who have responded to tho call and left thoir farms in the hands of a manager.' Some of them, I know, have.been killed and others wounded.' I cannot help thinking it'would be a disgrace to tho country if suck men who are fighting for our freedom as a nation aro to be taxed for doing so. Trusting no injustice will bo duoe to these brave' men.—l am, ' AN OLD VOLUNTEER.
