EX-CONSTABLE HOWARD
SENTENCED TO SIX MONTHS' IMPRISONMENT. ; (By Telegraph.—Presß Association.) Dunedin, September 7. Ex-Constable John Henry Howard came up-for sentence in the Supreme Court on two charges. of breaking and entering a butcher's shop at _ South Dunedin, one of the charges being of stealing a leg of mutton- and a meat hook. Accused is at present serving a sentence of two months' imprisonment for breaking' a window in attempting to escape when discovered. Counsel stated • that accused was 33 years of age, a married man, with one child. His. previous behaviour - both in tlie force and in other. positions had been' exemplary. He had domestic difficulties on account of illness in his family, and succumbed to. temptation. It was stated that he had been emby the Wellington City Council for eight years, for, seven years as a tramway inspector. Mr. Justice Sim made allowance for previousgood character, .and imposed a sentence of six : months' imprisonment on . eaoh ' charge, '■ the sentences" to be concurrent. -1
