Bis fields are engaged at both meetings. The attention of owners is called to the closing of acceptances at 9 p.m. on September ID for the firat day's handicaps at Avondale. Nominations for the Horowhenua Bracing Club's Spring Meeting close on Friday next. Weights for the first, day's handicaps at the Wanganui meeting are due on Friday next. Th>! Karamu representatives, Centre and Hyginas, both o£ whom were formerly regarded as sprinters, have been engaged in the Higgle Handicap, one mile and a quarter, on tho second day of tho Wanganui meeting. ' Included in tho Eighth Eeinforcoraents at present in camp at Tre.ntham is L. Lainbess,. formerly a well-known iockey in the Wanganui district. At Mr. G. Curric's. Koatanui stud, Wanganui. Bronze and Eulolo have botli foaled fillies to King Rufus. Accommodation has been engaged at tho Harp of Erin for Mummer, who, all going well in tha meantime, is. to bo brought north to fulfil his ongagement in the Avondale Cup, The English horse Marea vis, who was purchased in Sydney by £he Wanganui trainer, A. Hall, has been entered for the Maiden Bace at the coming, spring meeting of the Wanganui Jockey Club. Marcavis is not a stranger to the racing hacks, 1 but he has never won a Taco. Mr. W. E. Bid-well has Provocation (1/ownshire—Culmination) and Privation (Provocation—Te Kolii) engaged in the Wanganui Guineas. The former will probably be selected -to carry the colours in the race in question, and she will be ridden by C. Price.. Both fillies were on the small side as two-year-olds, and Probation only sported silk once. This was In the Hastings Stakes, in which she finished out of a place. ' The hurdle horse OrlcnorcKy has been giving trainer E. Watson trouble lately, and on this account he had to Tie withdrawn from his Marton engagements. He is all right again, and is expected to take his place in the Hack Hurdles at Marton, in whicli he will be ridden by G. Marchant. Prior to leaving for England to ioln the Imperial Forces, Mr. ,C. F. Johnston, owner of Flying Spur, gave instructions, that tho full-brother to Gladiolo was to be given a race in the Wanganui Guineas. Flying Spur attracted favourable comment (ft Marton by his appearance in the birdcage, but his. showing in tho Maiden Plate was not such as to. suggest Ko would) have a chance in a race like the Wanganui Guineas. ' He' seemed to be green and quite unable to' act on tho heavy going, but on the second day. when~ the going had improved, he did. much better, and with a few races;,lie should be able to quite hold hie own in hack company. Trainer R. Gooseman has two representatives in tho Spring Handicap at Dannovirke, viz., Alces and Sicily. Last year the trainer named won this race with the three-year-old Indigo.- He will probably rely in Sicily to-morrow, and reserve Alces for the Hack Welter. 1 ': Tho jumpers engaged in the Hack' Hupdles and the two steeplechases- at Danne. virke ar° not a good lot,- In the Hurdles Grlenoruhy . will meet two useful horses in. Lowry's' three-year-old Marco Belle, who,' it is understood, will carry the Hawke's "Bay sportsman's coloorrs in the Wanganui Guineas. ■ Expect, who has been off the scene sinco the last Trentham meeting, is to make his reappearance in public at Wanganui, whore he is engaged in both' open sprint events..
