HARRIERS
:• On Saturday afternoon tho. Brooklyn Harriers and A'. : A.. Club held a club event, which has .long been looked forward to. It was tno occasion: of the run' from 43 Hanson Street, as the guests of Mr. and Mrs. P. Harvey. ■ Between forty' and. fifty, members and supporters of tho club were present, including the club's ladies' committee and others. The club captain; F. Harleii, iWith N. Cummins, laid the trail; leaving P. Harvey to act as captain and C., Willis as deputy-captain, H. Edhouss was made pacemaker. R.,Harvey, late secretary, of the club, was also present for his last harrier run for some time, he being a member of the "Earl of Liverpool's Own," on leave, and leaving for the front shortly. The trail went' due south along Hanson Street and the hills till the back of the Athletic Park was reached. ■ Here a turn was made to Adelaide Road, whioh was followed for about half a mile. The toil then turned to ; the left till. Russell Terrace was reached. Following this to the bend the trail took to the hills at the back of the' Park; It soon turned west, crossing tho hills and the tramlines to the south of Du'ppa Street Park. From there it went home via the 1 hills, past the Fever Hospital and through Vogeltown. Turning down tho zig-zag track to Hall Street the pack bunched up, and when about 250 yards from home was lined up for a run-In. Miss D. Harvey had kindly, donated a trophy for 1 this event. Tho handicapping or P. Harvey was satisfactory all tho men being well up. H. Edhouse jumped into the lead followed by A. Elliott, and made tile pace all tho way. C. Willis spurted about twenty yards from home, and obtained tho verdict from H. Edhouso, with, Elliott third; 'After this' the com- . pany adjourned to tea at Mrs. Harvey's, At tho conclusion,* Messrs. Cummins, Bristow, Wilton, Harlen, and others spoke, and thanked tho host and hostoss. The company then adjourned fora social evening., Messrs. Stewart, Utiku, and R. Harvey officiated at the piano, and Messrs. Bristow, Hutton, apd others gave items. Mr. R- Harvey was farewellcd, all the members joining in a hope that he would have a safe and speody return, and would again take an activo part in harrierism in Wellington.
