Street, on Friday night, on the occasion of the annual smoke concert. -The president (Mr.. J. M Donald) , was in the chair, and among present were Colonel Collins, C.M.G., Lieut.-Colonel Macintosh, and representatives of most of the other rifle clubs in the district. • 111 Proposing the toast of the.Dominion Rifle Association; Mr. H. Marshall, of tue Karori Hifle Club, saidrthe asio-' cation had fought very hard to prcseiye the association- in' .the shape' in which it exists to-day. Rifle clubs were now well represented on the committee of the association, .and i had done their' fnL - aro ™ P reserv inE its integrity, rne Sull's-e3'e target, was still in existence, with a measure of . service work, and the programme of ■ the association was still the most military in 'Australia.-■ The preservation of; the present .programme was' considerably: due i to, Cfol. onel Collins., (Applause.) But for . the action of the association the Dominion would not have Trentham as a training ground for our troops. It tvas pleasing to note that many of our best: shots were among the best fighters a!t Siillipoli, and!; they had had word that some.-of the best of them were doing excellent work as "snipers." \ : Replying to the toast,' Col. ; Collins remarked that on account of the war the association, had during the year . been somewhat at rest, but the association was pleased to have been" able to place at'the disposal of the Government such a suitable place:, for training, which, after inquiry, liad been found to he eminently fitted for the work, and would be in constant use till the end of the waiv He went, on to say that it was an:inspiring sight to.see so many young men going to the front, and; he i stressed the fact that very' many rifle ' .club.men have gone aaid l are doing good work; and he .expressed th 3 belief, that many more would go in future. The existence; of the nation was at'stake. If we were beaten, all tho horoic endeavours of our fighters ill the past would bo as nangnt, aiid. it was our' duty to do everythmg.possible.to remove off the face of the earth, the curse of the world —tho Kaiser of.
