FIFTH, REINFORCEMENTS
THAT RUMOUR' OF, DISASTER. "I believe the -Fifth Reinforcements have gone, to the front, and I should say ttyat any disaster that has happened has not been to the Fifth, but. to the Turks they have met," said the Hon. J. Allen in the House of Representatives yesterday, amidst applause. . The reply arose out of a question, by the Hon. D. Buddo (Kaiapoi), who said that last week there had been rumours that a disaster had occurred to- the Fifth Reinforcements, and iliad caused great anxiety to parents. On being interviewed the Minister of Dofence had not contradicted the rumour, but had said that he had no information on the subject. The Minister said that he was informed by the Prime Minister that the rumour did not get into the newspapers until it was actually contradicted. He had no information with respect to any disaster to the Fifth, arid he was sure that if it had occurred he would have been cabled immediately. •
