C. Macky, two well-known citizens of Auckland, who were drowned in the .terrible disaster. The elderly couple mot their end'with calmness and heroism. When the' boats , were being ' lowered there -was one, seat left, which was offered to Mrs. Macky. _ Quietly and firmly slip declined it in favour of a younger woman. "I am getting old, and would rather stay with my husband. You aro younger, and havo life before you," she is reported to have said to the other • lady. The last glimpse of the couple : was of them standiiig on deck calmly awaiting the end. On arriving in London, the lady to whom Mrs. Macky surrendered her Beat advertised to obtain the address of Jack Macky, and told him the story 'of his parents' death.
