OLD MAN'S SUDDEN DEATH. An old man of 74 years, named Alfred Joffery, was found dead at 291 Tinakori Road yesterday morning. Deceased had been ailing for some time, and is said to havo refused to see a. doctor or to go to tlio Old Men's Homo, as ho had been advised. He was last seen alivo by Thomas Laskoy, who took him a cup of tea at about 7 o'clock on Thursday ovening. He was heard muttering to himself the following morning, and when visited about an hour later was found dead in his room. An inquest will probably bo held on Monday. LITTLE GIRL INJURED. 'A painful accideut occurred yesterday afternoon to the eighteen-montli-old daughter of Wong Some, Chinese fruiterer, of Cuba Street. The little girl wtiii sitting on the kerbstone, opposite her father's shop, and is believed to have had "her hand out on the road when an express passed, the ■ inside wheel passing over her hand. After receiving medical attention she was removed to her home. It is not thought that the child will permanently lose the use of her hand. : . John. Diamond, who was admitted to the Hospital on Thursday suffering from a fractured skull was reported from that institution last evening to be still unconscious and in a serious condition.
